Blogs for Your Geeky Little Catholic Soul

So while I'm waiting for the last of the Snapshots pictures to roll in, for the contents of a post-trip van to stop being barfed all over my living room and magically put away, for the rain to stop so I can shoo kids outside and think long enough to write a post for the Exchange, etcetera etcetera, I'll give you this to tide you over:

Do you know there's a whole world of Catholic sci-fi/fantasy blogs?
  • There's Kendra, over at The Nerdy Wife, who is a wife, mother, and serious gamer.
  • There's David Ives, who has a personal blog at The B-Movie Catechism, but also posts the articles at The Catholic Exchange.  He reviews truly awful movies of the whacked out sci-fi/fantasy genre, and then links them to teachings from the Church.  Spectacular.
  • Eric Mendoza, at RPG Catholic, is younger than I am, odder than I am, and smarter than I am.  Also, he has a raging love for My Little Pony that is so perplexing that I fully plan on spending naptime today parsing through that phenomena.
  • Patrick Button was nice enough to provide a short digest of recent(ish) articles about sci-fi, written by Catholic articles.
  • Gareth Layshon (a priest who has an interesting opinion on calling priests "father"), is the author of the most fantastic combox letter ever:  "Letter From Doctor Who's Parish Priest"  Because everyone knows that there were more than a few episodes where the 10th Doctor was portrayed as a Christ-like figure.
  • And while not strictly sci-fi, the "Good Catholic Husbands" tumblr page features Aragon, and Doctors 9 and 10 just enough to make this list.  Plus, the creator once made me a saint. (hint: a fiery arrow pierced her heart)

This makes me happy.  I find that, if given the choice, I'll read a blog by a Catholic author before one by a non-Catholic, but it seems to me that the majority of Catholic blogs are either 1. political blogs  2. apologetics blogs or 3. Mommy blogs.

All are fine, and all have their place and purpose.  But sometimes you don't want to think about the worlds political or domestic.  You want to think about the worlds fantastic and fictional.  And if there's a 9th doctor or a Captain Mal populating that world, and written about with a Catholic worldview, so much the better.

Anyway, that's enough for now.  I'll try and finish up Snapshots later today, so please come back and check out all the awesome from all over the world.

    1. Thanks for the mention, Mrs. Donaldson! I should also point out my friend D. G. D. Davidson, the "Sci Fi Catholic," who attempts to make sense of the very possibility of Catholic Bronyness here (http://www.scificatholic.com/2012/06/brief-reflection-on-why-i-watch-little.html) and here (http://www.scificatholic.com/2012/02/hasbro-to-fanboys-drop-dead.html). Patrick Button has John C. Wright (another Brony) covered, but I should also add Mike F. Flynn, another major Catholic sci-fi writer and blogger (http://tofspot.blogspot.com/).
