Portrait of the Math Slacker As A Young Girl
Day two of 25 problem math assignment.
No, don't feel sorry for her. She brought this on herself, since yesterday she spent sneaking time onto the computer when she thought no one was looking.
Today she learned a valuable lesson called "Netflix Recently Watched log" and "Internet Usage History". So while she may not be doing much in arithmetic, she's learning tons about Computer Science.
What cracks me up most about this picture is the internal monolog I know is going on behind that sweet expression:
"This isn't fair! My brothers are done with school already! They don't have to do as much school. This is so stupid. I would be done with school if it wasn't for this stupid math. Why do we even have to have math? I'm never going to use math in my bakery. I'll make sure of that. Hey! Let's see how tiny I can shred the edges of this lined paper!"
I love this girl because I was her when I was ten. Math is stupid. She would be done with school if it wasn't for math. And, if anyone can figure out how to do it, I have no doubts that Lotus will find a way to banish math from her future bakery.
As long as the cupcakes are good, no one will even notice.

Oh man. If the TV had a usage history when I was a kid I would have been so busted! Math is totally stupid. Love her expression!
ReplyDeleteSo unfair. You are so unfair!
ReplyDeleteI'll do her bakery bookkeeping and accept cupcakes as payment.
ReplyDeleteI have a nine year old who says those very same things to me EVERYDAY. Yet, he still takes 3 hours to do it. So much fun for mom. So much.
ReplyDeleteMy 17 y/o was making the same face last night. Math is mean.
ReplyDeleteLotus... thank you for finally summing up my thoughts on the subject in one simple yet complete expression.
ReplyDeleteI had scrolled down only so far as the wrinkled forehead of the subject---that is Cari, I thought--well, it was Cari, only 25 years ago...lol!!!
ReplyDeleteso cruel to make her do math!! I hated math for the first 7 years, then ah ha Algebra and it was a whole new ballgame. LOVED math from then on. Somehow, it just made more sense!
