Count the Stars..or the Starlings

Today's Old Testament reading is from Genesis 15:5-18.  God speaks to Abraham, telling him:

The Lord God took Abram outside and said,
"Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can.
Just so," he added, "shall your descendants be.

Have you ever seen a huge flock of birds, whirling across the skies and forming something hypnotic with their movements?  We used to get starlings by the thousands in Memphis.  They'd congregate by Ken's warehouse in the winter, and if startled, they'd rise up in this black cloud, uncountable in their numbers, and do something just like this (fast forward to :25 if you're pressed for time):

Whether starlings or stars, the point's the same- God blesses us with more things than we could ever count.

  1. BEautiful! My friend once made a massive art piece made out of hundreds of thin copper sheets; it hung from the second floor of an open building and I always thought it looked like some flock of birds flying in some crazy pattern. This video reminded me of it.

  2. I love that video. Every time I see it I get chills and am re-inspired with awe over God's creation. I bet he had fun when he thought up murmurations, don't you think?
